Christmas Appeal: Support a child into high school!

Christmas Appeal: Support a child into high school!

Ghana - JUNE 22, 2012: ONE Vote 2012 participants visit a joint water and sanitation project by USAID and Rotary International. This is a part of a bigger US $2 million cooperative project to provide boreholes, hand pumps, pipe schemes, and latrines for schools and clinics and water closets and showers for public venues. The project also provides training and information to encourage the maintenance and appropriate use of the facilities, and to help people protect the health of their families and their communities. More than 86,000 people across the Volta, Greater Accra, Eastern and Central regions will benefit. Transporting and storing safe drinking water in clean containers with lids, washing hands with soap before meals and child feeding, and after using toilets are important interventions to reduce disease. Promotion of family latrines, rather than shared latrines, is important to improving sanitation, as is capacity building at all levels to sustain the facilities constructed. The United States is contributing approximately $13.4 million towards improvement of water and sanitation conditions in Ghana over the next four years. Give a child in Ghana the chance to go to high school!

More than half of the children in Ghana is not able to complete high school. Their families are unable to pay for the educational costs involved. But all children have the right to go to school. Education is the key for a better future. With a diploma youngsters in Ghana are able to break the vicious cycle of poverty that they and their families are in. Already 43 children are currently going to high school with our support.

With the Study Fund we support children and youth in Ghana to enable them to complete high school. The support is provided for the number of years they need to complete (maximum is 3 years). The number of children we are able to support is completely dependent on the donations we get.
