Urban Poor Child Organization is a CBO (Community-Based Organisation) in Accra, founded by a former street youth who set himself the goal of creating lasting change for young people in his (slum) neighbourhood. The organisation runs a drop-in center for street children, a creche, preschool and primary school for the children in the area and participates in various outreach and community building projects.
The creche and preschool were in need of a thorough renovation, which we supported financially. All walls (inside and outside) were painted, the windows were fitted with metal grilles (against burglary) and mesh nets (against mosquitoes), ceiling fans were installed, etc. The toddlers and preschoolers also received new furniture and learning materials and toys.
