In the area of Abinchi, a poor neighbourhood in Kumasi, our partner constructed a daycentre for babies and toddlers. The mothers of these little ones are street children or market sellers. It is difficult for the moms to combine their work with the care of their children, so often the little ones are left on the street alone or under the supervision of an elder child. The daycentre provides a safe shelter for the day, a place to eat, play and rest, away from the street.
The daycentre is already hosting over hundred toddlers now. The little ones are divided into groups according to age, and are accommodated in three different class rooms. They are flourishing now that they don’t need to spend their days on the street any more. We supported the project with funds for toys, teaching materials and furniture.
